BIS CRS Documents Checklist: CCL, Schematic, PCB Layout and the 90-Day Test Report Rule

Image
The documents required for BIS CRS registration fall into three groups: business and factory proof, a technical file (schematic, PCB layout, user manual and Critical Component List), and a test report from a BIS-recognised laboratory issued no more than 90 days before filing. What Is BIS CRS Registration? Meaning, Process and Products

Image
BIS CRS registration is the Compulsory Registration Scheme of the Bureau of Indian Standards, under which notified electronics and IT goods must be tested at a BIS-recognised laboratory and registered before they can be made, imported or sold in India. BIS issues a unique R-number, which appears on the product with the Standard Mark. CRS runs under Scheme II of Schedule II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018, as per the BIS Act, 2016. BIS says the scheme aims to give momentum to the fast-growing electronics and IT sectors while protecting consumers from spurious and substandard products ( BIS CRS portal ). Why BIS CRS Exists MeitY notified the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement for Compulsory Registration) Order on 3 October 2012 for fifteen product categories, and added more categories in 2014, 2017 and 2020 ( MeitY notifications on the CRS portal ). The Order has since been reissued as the 2021 Order. Under these Orders, no person may ma...

Why China to India Freight Rates Change Every Week

If you import from China, you've probably noticed that the quote your freight forwarder gives you today looks nothing like the one you got two weeks ago. This guide breaks down exactly why current freight rates from China move week to week, what drives the swings on the China to India ocean freight lane specifically, and how importers can plan around the volatility instead of getting blindsided by it. Ocean freight isn't one price, it's a stack of moving parts A single china to india freight quote is rarely just "ocean freight." It's a base ocean rate plus a stack of a...

Before You Import or Export a Chemical: 10 Compliance Checks Indian Businesses Should Make

Image
Chemicals are among the most heavily regulated categories in Indian foreign trade and for good reason. A single missed compliance step can mean a shipment held at port, a demurrage bill running into lakhs of rupees, or in serious cases, a Customs seizure and penalty under the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act. In practice, chemical trade can involve several layers of compliance. The same product may need to be evaluated for its HS classification , DGFT import or export policy, hazardous-chemical requirements, environmental rules, SCOMET controls, product-specific standards, transportation requirements and Customs documentation. Which requirements apply depends on the chemical itself, its technical characteristics, intended use, destination, end user and the specific transaction. That is why a chemical shipment should not be treated as compliant simply because its HS code has been identified. A better approach is to perform a pre-shipment compliance review before the purc...
